Gatecrush helps people who are waiting at the same airport meet before they board. It only works if you can trust it, so here is exactly what we collect, who sees it, and how long we keep it.
What we collect
- Your profile: first name, age, a photo, what you're here for, and an optional “ask me about” line. If you're open to dating, also your gender and who you'd like to see.
- Your trip: the airport you're at, your boarding time, and optionally your gate and destination.
- Location, only if you tap “Use my location”: your device finds the nearest airport, and we check once whether you're within a few kilometres of it. We store only the yes/no result (the “At airport” badge), never your coordinates.
- What you do in the app: who you liked or passed on, matches, messages, meet-up suggestions, contact details you choose to share, and any blocks or reports.
- Usage analytics: which screens you view and which buttons you use, plus basic device and browser information. See “Analytics” below.
There are no passwords. Your account is a random token stored in a cookie on your device.
Who sees what
- Before you match: travelers at your airport see your photo, first name, age, what you're here for, your “ask me about” line, whether you're verified at the airport, and a rounded “boards in about an hour”. They do not see your gate, your destination, or your exact boarding time, so your card can't be used to find you or work out which flight you're on.
- After you match: you can chat, and you both see how long you have before the first of you boards. Your gate, destination and exact boarding time stay hidden until you tap “Share my gate and flight” in that chat. That choice is per match, and you never have to make it to meet someone.
- Only the person you matched with can read your messages with them.
- A contact you share is shown to your match only if they share one with you too.
- We never show your location, and we don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how people use Gatecrush, for example where people give up during check-in, so we can fix it. This includes session recordings of how the app is used. Recordings never capture what you type, and chats, photos and shared contacts are excluded from them entirely. PostHog stores this data on our behalf in the United States.
How long we keep it
- Your profile is hidden from other travelers as soon as you board.
- Matches, messages, shared contacts and swipes are deleted 7 days after the match.
- Profiles that haven't been used for 180 days are deleted along with their photo.
- Reports are kept while needed to keep people safe.
You can delete everything yourself at any time: You → Delete my profile removes your profile, photo, matches and messages immediately.
Services we use
Vercel hosts the app, Supabase stores the database, and PostHog provides analytics. They process data only to provide those services to us.
Age
Gatecrush is only for adults aged 18 and over.
Contact
For anything about a specific person, use Report in the chat. You can delete your data from the You tab.
